IPAP: An Audience of One

Low skills, deep witnessing.

IPAP is a developing framework in Intermodal Performance Arts Practice. Like expressive arts practice, IPAP does not require artistic mastery — its central emphasis is not simply expression, but the act of encountering oneself through performance, reflection, and embodied presence.

The practice follows a repeatable arc: attunement, noticing an impulse, translating it across movement, sound, word, image and role, shaping it into a short performance score, performing it for an audience of one, and reflecting on what has been revealed. Rooted in poiesis, phenomenology, intermodality, and performance and ritual theory, IPAP treats performance not as display, but as a practice of coming into presence with oneself.

IPAP Foundations

  • Poiesis

Making, letting emerge, letting be. You don't invent a performance — you discover one.

  • Decentering

Stepping out of ordinary speech into movement, sound, image or role, so new possibilities appear.

  • Recentering

Returning from the journey with a witnessed form and a changed relationship to experience.

  • Phenomenology

Attending to breath, gesture, silence and texture. "What is appearing?" before "What does it mean?"

  • Ethics

Consent, safety, deep witnessing, and respect for your own pace, boundaries and dignity.
